Born in Beijing and based in Berlin, Echo Ho is a contemporary artist working across experimental performance, installation, sound and technology. Since 2007 she has reinvented the Chinese seven-stringed guqin as SlowQin—an open electroacoustic hybrid that functions as instrument, interface, anarchive, portal and research tool at once.
She treats instruments and cultural knowledge as living systems rather than heritage to preserve or material for fusion. Through a sustained DIY practice of learning and unlearning, her work opens latent spaces: zones where different cultures and cosmologies, human and more-than-human, past and present can meet and generate new forms of listening, presence and imagination.
Art and technology become methods of world-making. Performances and installations turn into sites of encounter in which sound, image and gesture open mutable fields of energy and memory. Through both making and teaching, Ho creates conditions for questioning, presence and transformation.
Her work has been presented internationally, including at the He Xiangning Art Museum, Centre A Vancouver, ISEA and ZKM. She is a PhD candidate at the Art University Linz and was guest professor for Time-Based Art with Contemporary Technology at the Berlin University of the Arts (2023–2024).
